Dennis Nicholson was awarded the Simpson College Achievement Award for Distinguished Community Service for 2009. The award was presented at the annual Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner at Great Hall at Simpson on Friday, March 12th. Nicholson is Assistant to the National Balloon Museum Curator. In that role he edits, and prints and mounts photos, signs and documents for museum exhibits and/or special events. He develops slides shows for the theater, receives on-line orders for the Museum gift shop and provides photos and other documents for inclusion on the Museum's website. He handles photo requests for the media and marketing needs, and assists with general administrative duties. He is also a member of the Museum's Board of Directors. In addition, he is an official photographer for the National Balloon Classic. Dennis enjoys doing occasional PowerPoint or DVD presentations for Indianola First United Methodist Church, and takes communion to shut-ins once a month, all on a volunteer basis.
